i lost a check i mailed to a friend while it was in transit. i mean, i posted the check but i never got to destination. this is one month already. can identity theives get me and my accounts thru this incident? should i report it? remember checks have ur mailing addy and all ur account info.

who shud i phone to cancel the check?
the check is not even my problem now. its the fact that someone can now claim to be me, and mayb duplicate more checks, n take all the money in me account!!! thats what i am scared of. Help me!!! can they do dubious things and then make me pay???
is it do-able?

Yes. You should probably look at your credit report and see if they're doing anything to it.

However, Identity Theft is about to get alot worse. The government has passed the REAL ID Act, which creates a National ID (your driver's license) and all the data gets outsourced at a fee (paid for by your taxes) to some corporation. This is supposedly an anti-terrorism bill, but its gonna result in identity theft and dead cops, besides the obvious invasion of privacy. It's important that you demand that your state not comply with this federal government law and demand that Congress repeal it.

You should phone and cancel the cheque and ask the bank about your problem
