In my day it was called slam dancing and it was a LOT of fun and not too dangerous in smaller venues that didn't draw a crowd that wore spikes - like the Ramones at Philadelphia's Chestnut Cabaret. Great fun! Come out sweating like crazy and feeling great.
At larger venues or ones that draw spike wearers, the danger factor goes up exponentially and it is a lot less worth doing in my opinion.

Fun but disgusting! I hate the thought of all of the other people's grimey sweat rubbing up against me. Crowd surfing is pretty cool though, so I guess it's good and bad. You definately need to sanitize after though.

I think it's really stupid. I understand that they want to go crazy b/c of the energy from the music...but when it becomes real violent and people get bloody noses and get stomped on....I don't get it.
