Your statement is a classic non-sequitur. Your conclusion does not even follow from your premise, let alone logically follow from it.

I wish. Media rarely does a good job in reporting science.
And television is the prime instrument of big everyone. There is no monolithic agenda, other than making money by showing whatever gets the viewers.

If it's the science of seeing how they can reduce supposed grown-ups to playing juvenile mind-games, and getting them to resort to playground antics a la "I'm not playing with you!", then yes, some seriously sick scientists must be behind the sad "religion" of reality TV shows like Big Brother.
Karl Marx said that religion is the opium of the people - what a visionary, he must have been referring to the sad fact that nearly 9 million viewers watched BB at any one time!

In a way, you are right. But wouldn't the prime instrument be a large force of dedicated fundamentalists? You cannot kill people with cameras. The next instrument would be a way to make the funamentalists think what you want them to think. Then give them cameras, so they can find the .............!

Ten thousand years ago in Northern Europe, a clan of humans huddled in a cave during a terrible storm. Lightning struck powerfully all across the land. The humans trembled with great fear. Their Shaman prayed and moaned and wagged his grass wand in the air to ward off evil spirits. Young boys whacked each other in heightened bravado and whooped to hide their fear. The head of the clan beat the floor with a club, which resonated with each growl from the thunderclouds, and challenged the gods with his OWN mighty power. The women and children cowered in the back of the cave. And, the elderly, wiser humans, remembering storms of the past and not so afraid, rode the storm out half asleep. And then, a bolt struck close! It exploded through a nearby tree and all the humans in the cave screamed for their lives. Suddenly, the storm ceased. Young boys bravely peeked out of the cave and screamed in terror as they saw the flames shooting up from the tree. FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! Everyone started screaming again and whacking the ground. The leader gestured for silence and then for the Shaman to go forth and make safe the land once again from the FIRE. The Shaman was not brave and balked. The FIRE was a demon, he grumbled as he wagged his grass wand at the tree. He was afraid and he wouldn't go forth to the tree. But, two young boys creeped passed him and cautiously approached the tree. FIRE! FIRE! It was terrifying . . . and beautiful. And, hot! They warmed their hands above the flames in wonder. Sweet warmth! Full of gusto and courage, the boys picked up a burning tree limb and they paraded around, wildly screaming in pride. The leader and others came forth and the boys carefully presented the burning limb to the leader to see and feel the HOT! It was a great mystery and a wonder. They all danced with passion around the burning tree and were ecstatic in the sweet, rare warmth. It felt so good. Then, the baby grandson of the leader fell and landed on a hot ember, burning his leg. SCREAMS! SCREAMS! Oh, the leader went mad. He attacked the tree with rocks. Others joined in and they, too, went mad. DESTROY! DESTROY!The leader swung around a burning branch to destroy its power, and it caught afire the hair of an old woman. SCREAMS! SCREAMS! All was horrible and there was the smell of human flesh. She died in screeching agony. The Shaman stood high upon a ledge and bellowed like an echo in a cavern for all to fall to the ground and pray to the demon gods for forgiveness. They had angered the gods for touching the burning tree, he told them. And, so, they must suffer. And the two boys who picked up the burning limb must be torn apart. The Leader agreed. SCREAMS! SCREAMS! And, they tore the boys apart. Blood was on their hands and faces and the Leader grunted with pleasure from the taste of the boys blood and delicious power on his lips. The Shaman warned the clan that humans would be punished if they ever even looked upon FIRE! Only Shamans and the Leader were allowed to look upon fire forever more. And, to appease the gods further, all must bring the Shaman and the Leader tokens of food and pelts. The humans in the cave trembled with ignorance and fear and did as they were told. And, for the next ten thousand years, they trembled with ignorance and fear and tore apart those who explored the world around them, even by burning them at the stake. Knowledge of the world is evil, say the Shamans. And, the Leaders lick the blood and power of all who dare say otherwise.
"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the world around him and calls the adventure Science" Edwin Powell Hubble. What we chose to DO with what we learn about the world around us is not in the hands of scientists. If it were, and not as it has been historically in the hands of Shamans and politics, the world would be a better place.
