its probably a build in camera, because a port for the mic is always on the side of the laptop
unless its not a port for a plug in mic, then double click the speaker in your taskbar & unclick the mute check box on mic volume & speak into the hole & you should hear your self
hope that helps

yea u r right, it is a mic. u can use it for speech recognition. for example if u have office 2003: go to microsoft word and go to tool and click speech recognition. You will then be able to control the program by ur speech, no need of ur mouse. It can type click button when u say it. but remember ur voice should be clear enough so dat computer can understand. it is not always very reliable. To configure ur mic, right click on ur task bar (some where near ur system clock and go to toolbars and click language), you will then able to a mic icon. right click on it and go to settings. you will be able to configure ur mic. u can also learn a tutorial session from that. remember this is only if u have office 2003 installed. if not i dont know how else to use it. oh yea another way u can use it to record audio. click on start, all program, accessories, entertainment and click on voice recorder. u can use this to record audio. i think u will be able to use it to have conversation on messenger programs such as msn, yahoo.... hope this helps. ok bye.
