The time it takes really depends on the time of day that you leave. It is about 1500 miles depending what part of Houston you live in. I have driven it several times and I have made in it as short @ 20 hrs. to as long as 24hrs. It's not a bad drive except there is very, very little to see. If all possible take along a large supply of cd's or have a satellite radio as for a good part of the trip there is very little radio reception. Cell phones work most of the way depending on carrier. I would plan on leaving Houston either late morning or real late evening so you don't spend a lot of time trying to get out of town on the Katy freeway. If possible fly as it's a lot quicker and almost as cheap with the price of gas..hope this help. Take care

I've made the trip from Las Vegas to San Antonio in 18 hours, so add another 3 hours to that and it would be about 21.

Says here, 1453 miles and 21 hours 34 minutes.

Having done that sort of distance I'd say that's not far off. Maybe 20 hours in the seat, if you are pressing on.
