Corn snakes are very easy to take care of and probably the best first time reptile pet. Many beautiful color morphs too. They do fine in a 20-40 gallon tank as an adult (an adult beardie needs at least a 40 gallon), will eat about every 7-10 days as juveniles and every 10-14 as adults, and most tame down no problem. Go with the corn snake. The pewter, blood red, and sunglow motley morphs are my fav.

Definitely not a Bearded Dragon or any other large lizard for the beginner. A nocturnal Gecko is probably the easiest and best beginner reptile, as it is an insectivore making it easy to supply with food, and it is nocturnal and requires much less UV. Normal UV levels inside the house in a sunny room are usually sufficient. They won't need UV lighting unless you want to go the extra effort.

Next choice would be a small snake. A Corn snake is a good candidate, though you will have to provide rodent prey every week 1/2-2 weeks. They benefit from UVA lighting, but won't need UVB if they are getting fresh live ( or fresh killed ) prey ( Vit. D3 from the livers of their prey ). Snakes are great escape artist, so it will need something secure. And snakes generally have more captive eating problems than other reptiles, but are overall less maintenance.

We had a corn snake for years. It was really easy to take care of. Just keep enough water in the dish, clean the crap out periodically and change the bedding when you clean it. It only needed to be fed like every 1-3 weeks with mice that we bought through the pet store. I don't know about bearded dragons though. Good luck!

Corn snakes would be MUCH easier to care for then a bearded dragon. Under tank heater on one side, couple hides, only have to feed once a week or so. Just make sure the tank is very secure as snakes are notorious escape artists.

Lizard's are easier. Snakes have a tendency to go get out. They're escape artists, unless their in a sealed container, but they really do need wire mesh for air to circulate. It just depends on your container. Then there's diet to consider. Snakes leftovers in a cage can be a problem, i.e. uneaten mice, or rejected foods. (Sometimes they just won't eat) Compared to crickets or mealworms for lizard's, who just sit, bask, and look pretty most of the time. You need lighting for both, however, Bearded Dragon's require more heat, a good heat lamp, a heat rock, desert like environment.

In my opinion, corn sankes are, all you have to do is give them light, feed them once every 1-2 weeks, change thier water, and clean up thier poop.
Bearded dragons need, light, food alot more frequently, clean water, and thier poop changed. Also it is generally harder to keep lizards healty than it is to keep snakes healthy. Both are excelent pets so enjoy whichever you pick.
