Should be 12vdc negative ground

12 volts. with the motor off. If the charging system is working and motor running the measured voltage across the battery terminals should be 13.5 - 7 volts. If you have a small volt meter your all set.

12 VDC.
Damn near ALL garden tractors are 12 volt.
Kohler, Briggs, Techumseh, Onan, ALL 12 VOLT.
