Yes!! My daughter is 10 months now and just started saying mom --- really - she tried before but never got it right until recently - she has been saying "dada" or "dad" for months now --- it doesn't mean he loves him more... haha. hope this helps :)

Dada (or some version) is much easier for babies to say than the m sound of mama. My daughter's first word was "book", at around 8 months, and my son is only five months, so just babble so far.

My first daughters first word was Dadda at 5 months, followed by Mum at 7 months, then Nana and Buba at 8 months.
My second daughter was about the same but said Mumma first then Dadda.

I think about 9 months my son said mama and dada. They were about at the same time. Also in the same time he was saying kitty kitty for our cat. Now at 11 months he says bye bye, hey, and ball.

My son is 3 and a half months old and says Da-da perfectly - imitating us. But if we keep repeating Mommy to him he looks at us smiles and says something like "oaaoh". :) It's really adorable, although I would love it if it was the other way around :).
