According to the Guinness Book of Records, the fastest Snail in the world (common garden snail) covered 13" in 2 minutes.
1 mile has 63,000 inches in it, so that Snail could cover that distance (1 mile) in a time of ( 63K /13=4846 x2= 9692 minutes), 9692/ 60= 161.5 hours/24= 6.73 days. Ok, so that particular snail could (circumference at equator in miles is 24,901.5 miles) 24,901.5 X 6.73= 167587 days divided by 365 = 459.1 or say 460 Years. Snails in captivity have lived as long as 30 years

It probably wouldn't live to make it to the next hill/ street. They are very slow and don't live too long. It would probably take them maybe over 50 of our years or even more since they go at a pace of less than a coupole of meters per hour. But on the way, they would probably get eaten, stepped on, ran over in the streets, crushed, drown at sea, and all sorts of horrible deaths.
