If you really want it for the GBA, then I would suggest Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island. The great stuff from the past, in the new. Its a little revamped from the first version on the SNES, but its really enjoyable.
Also, Yoshi goes for the sidekick role in Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World. My favorite game in the whole Mario games. Its really addictive, and it should have a HIGH replay value. You'll want to play it over, and over, and over again.

I dunno about the GBA, but for DS... Yoshi's Island DS is a great game.
