I also played the clarinet. BQ: No, that would have made me a hypocrite. At the time, I chose clarinet because I thought it was supposed to be the easiest (I was wrong). Plus, I really like the sound of the flute. BQ2: My GF was a flutist, and she also took Spanish. Hmmm... BQ3: Her mom harangued me for corrupting her daughter, but I knew she was secretly jealous.
