Appearances are deceiving. A habitual book reader seems to be lazy, but he is just enjoying himself in the manner that suits him, much as a fisherman or fan at a football game enjoys his own particular kind of recreational pastime.
While copious amounts of reading can lead a young person to become somewhat passive, it is also improving his reading comprehension to the point that he is more likely to be hired over a competitor with less-honed reading skills.

Generally bookworms are highly intelligent people; it takes a hungry brain to devour all those books!

Honestly, partly yes. When I was little you couldn't pay me to stop reading. I would read read read. Bathroom, walking, practically in my sleep. I never exercised. I just sat reading and eating. And I went from a skinny little eight year old to a girl bigger than most middle schoolers. And it was not a growth spurt either. =[
