I am a freshman at a small four year college. I kind of picked it out of the blue and now I don't like it. I want to transfer but I don't know where to go. Should I just stay at my school and graduate or should I go ahead and find somewhere I like and transfer? Any advice will be appreciated.

Decide what you do or don't like about your school - make a list, it helps to see it in black and white. Then look into other schools - do more research this time and try to find one that suits you better than the one you're attending now. Use The Insider's Guide to Colleges, it gives good narratives about the schools, their strengths and weaknesses.

The other thing about college is that it can be a traumatic change, regardless of the school and the things you experience there. When I transferred, my junior year, I got a catalogue for the school I was transferring to and then got my courses approved at my first college, so that if I decided to transfer back I knew my courses/grades would transfer. It was a little extra footwork, but I ended up going back to my original college and being very happy there my senior year. And trust me, my sophomore year there was HORRIBLE! It's just smart to keep your options open.

Make sure the school you transfer to will accept all or most of the credits you have earned. You don't want to start four years over again if you can help it. And make sure the new school has the classes/programs you're interested in pursuing.

Good Luck!

If you don't like the college you attend now, I think you should definetly transfer, because you won't be happy for the next 4 years! Besides, why pay all that tuition, at a school, you don't even like! Thats a waste of time, money, and agony. Go to college that fits all your academic needs, and you'll be fine. Also, make sure you talk to your college counselor- he/she will help you!
Good Luck

I think you should go to a college that you like. It's just like a job why go there every day if you don't like. Find somewhere that you like and that is what you can afford.
