Cassius and mr.q, you are both ignorant beyond words. Ethel Waters and Janis Ian are both musicians. Golda Meir and Indira Gandhi are ELECTED Prime Ministers. Angela Davis and Rosa Parks are civil rights activists. Isabel Allende and Alice Walker are both writers. None of these women's success had anything to do with being married to famous men. The only woman who was the wife of a famous man is Eleanor Roosevelt, and she was pretty impressive on her own. I'm sorry you both are SO incredibly insecure.

Anyway- I would suggest looking into:
Bessie Smith
Maya Angelou
Zora Neal-Hurston
Bella Abzug
Wangari Maathai
Gro Harlem Brundtland
Margaret Bourke-White
Hansel Mieth

These women are all very interesting.

Rosa Parks
Eleanor Roosevelt
Ethel Waters

Janis Ian--a rich interesting life
Alice Walker
Angela Davis

Golda Meir
Indira Gandhi
Isabelle Allende

I think the first three will be common picks. I'd pick some uncommon people. Even better, I'd interview an old person at a retirement home about their early life.

Here are some topics I would find interesting:

First ladies throughout history, how are the title and position changed through time.

Women and their contributions in science.

Activists: Rachel Carson (environmental activist), Margaret Sanger (birth control advocate), Dolores Huerta (co-founded the United Farm Workers), Gloria Steinem (social activist)

I'm wondering where the White / Men's History month is...

Here's an idea for you. Identify all the ways that women are privileged and have oppressed others. That would be a VERY interesting topic to expound upon!
