There are many theories as to why green is the official color of this holiday. The most common ones are:
1. Shamrock is green in color
2. Green is the color of spring which starts around this time
3. Green is connected with nature and hope
4. Probably to honor Ireland, as it is nicknamed 'The Emerald Isle' for its plush green landscape.
Whatever be the reason, if someone forgets to wear green on St. Patrick's Day, those who are wearing green are allowed to give the offender a pinch as a reminder. However, if you pinch someone who is wearing green, that person gets to pinch you back ten times! School children started this tradition. :)

Because it is an irish holiday. Ireland is a very green place. When Irish immigrants came to the US they would talk about how they missed the emerald island. They passed it down.

ireland is known as the emerald isle
in a song the writer noticed that ireland had 40 shades of green when he flew over ireland(forget his name though)
the green in the tri colour flag of ireland represents the irish nationalists/republicans who want ireland unified. green therefore is associated with ireland.

Green is not the true color of Ireland -- it is actually navy blue.

The Irish love the ganja. They changed from Catholicism to Rasta a few years back after the IRA got so hostile. They thought the reefer would chill them out a bit.

donning eco-friendly is precisely a U.S. custom, because the color eco-friendly isn't effortless in eire. eco-friendly is appropriate to the old eco-friendly flag and a time at the same time as eire replaced into no longer loose. eco-friendly is likewise a color appropriate with desire and nature. eco-friendly in case you want, yet when you're Irish or have Irish historic previous eco-friendly is unlucky!!!
