Scientists were originally called "natural philosophers". So do you mean the first person to use the word scientist? Or the 1st person to actually do science? There is a huge difference.

interesting question.
mankind has been developing science for ages - I suppose the classic early examples are the taming of fire and the invention of the wheel.
but let's not confuse scientific method with mere development of technology. science is about making observations, then coming up with a theory to explain what you observe - and to predict what will happen in the future. as long as your theory holds up to observation, it's considered 'good science'.
for this reason, Galileo is frequently considered the first modern 'scientist' because of his emphasis on experimentation.

That knowledge was discovered and proven through a series of steps which have come to be known as the 'Scientific Method." Anything which claims to be 'knowledge' which does not stand up to this scturiny must be disbelieved as 'hearsay' at best and downright lies and deception at worst.
