Constant vigilance!
Seriously, its hard to stop something once it gets ingrained. What I find helps me is to change my whole routine leading up to the habit. For instance, if you over eat, maybe change your routine by making food the night before and eating it the next day, so you aren't starved and making (and eating) more than you need to.
I also find that rewarding myself helps. For instance I tell myself, "If you finish this paper tonight then you will be free to take yourself out to dinner tommorow."
Finally, I try not to be so hard on myself. Failure is part of life. But that doesn't mean I need to dwell in that. Instead, I give myself lots of mental praise.
Good luck.

First you make a list of the bad habits. Then you take the most important one you want to change and keep working at it. Every time you consciously catch yourself doing the bad habit, change what your doing. If your a nail biter, put on some bitter stuff so you stop biting. You get the idea. Good luck.

You have already started by asking your question congrats. Make up your mind what bad habits you want to stop, not change, take all your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energy and devote it to this decision, once you've done that the good habits just fall into place because you have just taken control of your life. Good Luck

I just did a project on behavior modification in psychology. Basically, you need to punish your bad behavior and reward your good behavior. For example, if your bad behavior is biting your nails, then you could flick a rubberband against your wrist every time you catch yourself biting your nails. For going an entire day without biting your nails, you could get a manicure or do something else enjoyable.
God Bless

Watch your thoughts they become your words
watch your words they become your actions
