Now that a British judge has ruled the death of the squaddie in Iraq by American fire a 'criminal act' .... and the American authorities have immediately discounted that stating that is was a 'regrettable and tragic accident' ....... what should happen next? Should both sides bring closure on the matter and simply learn from it? Or should the debate go on?

The debate may go on but the Americans will not play any part in them. British troops died as a result of 'friendly fire' during the first Gulf war and the American response was as it was this time - closed ranks, looked out for their own. I have mixed feelings about it. 1) I'm sure the Americans who fired on Matty Hull will live with it for the rest of their lives and 2) War is a nasty business and accidents will happen, if we send young lads into such unimaginable situations, what do we expect?!

I personally think it is diabolical that these guys have not been brought to the english courts. The tanks were so marked that surely they knew who it was - which leaves me to think that they were simply 'trigger happy' - and at the cost of this individual. I am 100% certain that the other way round they would have insisted our men be trialled over there.

I think the soldiers widow has been very brave and she will never have closure - nor would I.

They should be brought to justice, along with Dubya. If it wasn't for him lying about WMD's, the Yanks, or our troops for that matter, wouldn't have been in Iraq in the first place.

War is war but they do need to look at their rules of engagement. The American military have always been trigger happy.
