hi...i dug out a dead tree stump and discovered termites...i couldn't locate the colony...i'm planting lilac

They only eat dead wood. Your lilacs should be fine.

if you found termites then you found the colony!! they do not go wandering around the globe like bees etc,, they stump WAS the colony!!

plant them saturate ground with termite killer and plant bushes..
