BECAUSE DUKE PLAYER'S ARE GARBAGE!

Dean Smith and Roy Williams stress TEAM work, not individual play. Their graduates understand basketball is a team sport and that they play best when they play as a team.

Coach K recruits top players, as does UNC, only at Duke they play for themselves first, team second. Duke has had great individual players but when they go pro, a bunch of veterans don't want some hotshot coming in thinking he is going to do things his way. Egos pumped up at Duke fall flat when faced with a team that is not interested in their ego.

Smith and Williams are teaching coaches. They expand the abilities of the players. Coach K uses the player's existing abilities and does nothing to make him a better all around player. A Duke player leaves Duke playing the same only a few years older.

MJ was not a star on UNC. He was not even the top scorer., but he did realize the importance of everyone on the team doing well for the team to do well.

On the other hand, Danny Ferry thought he was special and the game was all about him. The pros didn't share in his loftiness. He was a flop.

My guess is that since UNC is easier to get into than Duke, more of the better athletes choose to go there?
