RSV is, for the most part, the worst cold ever. It is a virus and his body will have to work through it. He may be quite sick for several days. He should show marked improvement within a week. It is really scary, and babies have died from it. He will get better. Hold him lots, it will make you both feel better and if your instincts say he needs more medical attention, take him in. We go to doctors and put our trust in them and their knowledge, but we know us and our children better than anyone and the doctor won't know if the baby "hst isn't right" but you will. You are a new mom and I hope that this is the scariest thing you will ever face, you can both get through this. Take care of yourself and keep as close an eye on the baby as you feel you need to. When my son had RSV (he was 15 mos), it was awful. I was so scared I couldn't sleep for fear he would stop breathing, I called my mom and friend and we took turns watching him. It helped me.Best wishes.

I am terribly sorry to hear your baby is sick. Many babies get RSV and get over it just fine. Worrying does not help. Trust that whatever is is best. I'm sure he'll get over it. Call your doctor and ask them these questions. If you feel the treatments aren't helping, let them know and do not stop bugging them until you are satisfied. Persistence can pay off. He may need to be admitted to the hospital.
Keep nursing as much as you can. It will help him and help you relax. Keep prayin and keep believing too. Whatever you do, do not allow anyone to smoke near the child and do not burn any candles or incense.

Are you ABSOLUTELY certain that he was diagnosed with RSV? My son had it (twice) and BOTH times he was immediately hospitalized in quarantine in the PICU at our local hospital. BOTH times he was in an oxygen crib for at least 3 days. RSV can, and often times is, fatal in infants so the doctor requested that either my husband or I be in the hospital at all times (we had my mother watch our daughter so that we both could be with our son 24/7). Not only that, he had several IVs with antibiotics, fluids, etc. There is NO WAY your son should be home and not hospitalized if he actually has RSV. My suggestion would be to get him to the local emergency room ASAP, tell them what your doctor told you, and see if they concure with his diagnosis. If they do I bet my bottom dollar that they put him in the hospital. RSV is nothing to fool around with!

I thought that when babies so young like that get rsv they put them in the hospital.. My son had it when he was a few months old and we were in the hospital for a week.. you just need patience and time. RSV is a virus... it will have to run its course, but you can watch him closely and treat his symptoms. Sorry to hear that the little guy is sick and having a rough start. You are already seeking help so you are ahead of the game. Mom, he will be fine. Little ones are tougher than we think sometimes.

well I would not take any chances with that....say a prayer for him and keep his medicine on time to him...also I would take him back in to be checked if he is not getting any better at all...with him that young, better safe then sorry....also make sure that you are keeping him hydrated with plenty of whatever they have told you to have him drink...I am not sure but I do not think they are supposed to have milk with that, ask the doctor to see what he is supposed to drink....
