I think we are in the middle of a time of great change, and all great changes are painful, somewhat destructive and frightening. I only hope that it's for the better...

Our society, globally, may not be necessarily breaking down, we are becoming more aware and knowledgeable regarding cultural differences due to the expanding media. I believe that civilized peoples are working towards cohesive unity on this planet and at the same time the uncivilized madmen are hurling themselves towards destructive chaos. Some call it Armageddon and I am not speaking prophetically or religiously but as a mere observer on this planet.

Think of the Greeks and Romans. Think of the way people live right now. They say all great civilizations must fall.

Its already here isn't it? No real family life, no respect for older people/parents, no respect for life in general and no respect for working or knowing the satisfaction of earning your money to buy your own food and goods. But there are some good moments.... :)

I guess it depends on what "society" is defined as. Was there ever really a cohesive global, or even within-country, unity that was so pure ?
