Anyone interested in histories of kings and queens? If so which authors do you like?

I prefer Allison Weir, when it comes to Tudor history.

I like to read David Starkey (Elizabeth I & the Wives of Henry VIII). Although I don't always agree with his turn of events and Elizabeth I teeters on the edge of hagiography, his writing is very lively and his imagery is capivating.

I am a huge Tudor fan, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them also!

Wier is good but I prefer to avoid authors who over focus on personalities. They clearly have opinions (such as Weir on Richard III) so that has to impact the writing. History is supposed to be fact not a story.

Carolly Erickson has written a number of good biographies, including one on Mary I of England, Anne Boleyn and Catherine to Great of Russia. Her only drawback, in my opinion, is that she writes somewhat like a historical novelist.
