Allow yourself extra time for delays.

Whenever I have to be somewhere at a certain time, I always plan on leaving a few minutes early, in case traffic is bad or I get lost or whatever.

I really hate people that can't do this simple thing. My best friend would always be late, so much so that I would always lie to him about when movies would start, or when we needed to meet, etc. What is so damn hard about being on time???

What it shows to your employer is that you don't have respect for them to do them the courtesy of showing up on time. That applies to friends or family if you are habitually late with them too.

Sorry. I guess I vented on you.

Get up earlier. I get up an hour earlier and then lay back down after I am all ready for work and take a 15 minute nap (or half hour) and then head out the door. I am always early and never late. Also you could try a different work shift if you can't get up in the morning. I tried that and it works too. I would go to work at 11 p.m. work until 7 a.m. and then go home and go to bed, get up and get breakfast and get the kids off to school, go back to bed, get up and get supper and spend some time with the kids, lay down for an hour or so after the kids went to bed, then their dad was home and I went to work. I have been to work late once and can't remember why but I was disappointed when the boss didn't ask me why I was late. Also the night crew is a completely different and fun group to work with, no bitching, and everybody was nice.

Well you have to do an honest self-evaluation and determine exactly why you are late for work. Are you so exhausted that the alarm doesn't wake you?--go to bed earlier or check with your doctor for a sleep study. Do you forget to turn on your alarm?--turn it on again 1 minute after you've turned it off in the morning. Just can't get going in the morning?--lay out your clothes, meal, pack your lunch, etc. the night before. If the traffic is horrible try leaving 5 minutes earlier the change in traffic flow can dramatically shorten your travel time or even increase it! I personally have found that by selecting some special treat for myself in the morning I am motivated to wake early. The morning is my time for television and personal devotion time. I also check my e-mail's and a few favorite websites before I get ready for my day. Those things to look forward to help me get up and out of bed even when I am tired. My husband never got anywhere on time until the ARMY started to fine him $200 each time. He really started to get his butt to work on time then! You could even fine yourself by making yourself stay late at work for twice the amount of time you were late or something. Good Luck--frankly this is a problem most people grow out of as they age--most but not all!

To avoid being late for work, you need to leave your house a half an hour before you are scheduled to work and get to work on time.

Depends on the hours you work. If you work during the day, set your alarm clock (the regular time) ahead about 15 mins.
