butterflyspy, Islam does teach people to respect the opposite sex. Some people don't, of course, but that's their problem.

You might as well have asked, "why do people hate...?" If you only look at some of the ugly questions here on Yahoo Answers you will see that there are some very soulless people who are empty of all love and compassion that it takes to remain human. "Why". I really don't know. But my answer is to beg you please do not let it change the goodness in your heart. Ugliness and hatred are always on earth as is love and beauty. Keep the good and throw away the evil and refuse to become like them. This is how to stop it.

One reason Muslim women disgust many off us is because so many of them have played a part in these so called honor killing,While their sister cousin or daughter is being murdered supposedly for bringing some kind of disrespect to the family these women help or participate in these murders or else turn a blind eye to their suffering abuse and eventual death.A real woman wouldnt allow that to happen espicially a religously pious woman. It may be a wrong stereotype but when I think of Muslim women I think of someone who wont stand up to a man when he is wrong.Someone who looks the other way while others are abused maybe other people feel the same.If this is not true its up to the this generation to prove otherwise by ending honor killings. If The penalty was death and they inforced it that might be a start.For the world to take Muslim women seriously they are going to have to start protecting their daughters and daughter in laws from these exstremist husbands they have.Terrorrism begins at home and thats where the battle will be won.You have to teach your children to respect the opposite sex.

I have no idea, but I don't hate anyone and certainly not because of their religion of course. Some people are superficial and ignorant, ignore them.
