Yeah! I just saw it on an article. It's 2 certain kinds you can get at walmart. They caused kidney failure and deaths in some cats and dogs.

There has been a recall on Walmart brands and some other pet foods sold in grocery stores in the US, Canada and Mexico. Something to do with the manufacturer of those foods changing one of their suppliers and they received tainted ingredients. You can find out exactly which brands here http://www.menufoods.com/recall/ they're saying on the site that they will post tomorrow morning. Right now it's very hard to get on the site due to heavy traffic. There is a question in the Cats section with more information.

I am devasted by this. Fortunatly dogs are not being affected as much as cats according to the FDA. Two of my four cats fell ill within two days with renal failure and then ended up having to be euthanized. This was in February. Well I saw the recall and I now KNOW in my heart this is what happened. I called a DVM and PHD from teh FDA article. My cats ate "Special Kitty" brand pouches from Wal mart everyday. The two that do not eat this are fine. I found a link on the PETA website of what foods MENU BRAND makes. These foods (including the ones i purchased) are at Wal mart, safeway and Kroger. Here are the brands Albertsons, A&Ps master choice, Authority, Award, sophistacat (pet smarts), IGA, Kroger, Loblaw, Pathmark, Safeway select, shoprite, Stop and shop and Wal marts special kitty. These brands are all manufactured by MENU BRANDS but may not all be affected. I do have two dead cats to prove that the Special Kitty was affected. Any one who has been affected i am going to attempt to file a class action lawsuit please email me at Lucky2bsjtp@yahoo.com PLEASE no prank emails or solicitations folks, this is serious. PLEASE, i dont know how else to get affected persons together.

Commercial dog food caused my in laws dog to lose hair and constantly itch so they found a recipe for homemade dog food and treats. It's been working and the dog has stopped digging and the itching has almost stopped. There are all natural cat and dog foods now available in store now, just read the labels. I have a cat that can't eat any red meats, wheat or soy and I read all the labels until found one that didn't contain any of them. I feed all 14 of my cats the same food. Surprisingly it's made by Wal Mart.

Oh my I'm so sorry to hear of your lose. This is so sad. I just watched it on the 6:pm Global news (B.C. Canada0 One of North America's largest pet-food suppliers said Friday it's recalling some of the premium dog and cat food it sells through stores such as Wal-Mart and Safeway at a cost of up to $40 million after several animal deaths in the United States. Menu Foods based in Streetsville, west of Toronto, called the recall of its products sold in cans and pouches precautionary. CEO Paul Henderson told the Canadian Press that exhaustive tests by both internal and external specialists had failed to identify the problem. "We're not entirely sure what has happened," Henderson said. "We've undertaken a battery of technical tests … and all of those tests have failed to identify any issues at all with our product." Only U.S. pets affected One dog and a "small number" of cats in the U.S. are reported to have died from kidney failure after eating the food, Henderson said. There had been no complaints from Canadian pet owners. The company said it had also beefed up the testing of all raw materials and finished goods. Menu Foods, one of the leading North American private-label and contract manufacturer of wet pet-food products, produced more than one billion containers last year. It supplies its products to 17 of the top 20 retailers in North America for sale under store labels such as Master Choice, Compliments and Select, and it manufactures for several national brands. Starting in December, concerns began filtering back to the company through toll-free customer lines about its "cuts and gravy"-style pet food. Callers complained their animals had fallen ill although no direct link to the food was established. Menu Foods has posted a list of products affected by the recall on its website. The company said it discovered that "timing of the production associated with these complaints coincides with the introduction of an ingredient from a new supplier." It says it stopped using this ingredient shortly after this discovery. The recall affects products made between Dec. 3, 2006, and March 6 at two of its American facilities in Emporia, Kan., and Pennsauken, N.J. Menu's other plants are in North Sioux City, S.D., and Streetsville. The Menu Foods customer service hotline can be reached at 866-463-6738 for more information on what brands were affected.

The garbage you buy at the grocery store isn't good for your pet. I wouldn't go so far as to say it causes death, but there are definitely healthier foods out there.
