Hi!
Being a recovering alcoholic, I can say that I have a very addictive nature.
I have about 20 pairs of shoes..probably more ( not counting), but I will use the same pair of shoes that I like best until I ware them out. My best friend, whom is non-alcoholic, always wares different shoes.
I love instant gratification!
Buying one pair of shoes is boooring
Splurging on 3 pairs of shoes at a time is amazing.
I will disagree with people that say that alcoholics are generally bad with self-control.
The only thing that I cannot control is the amount of drink after one drink. I am a vegan...so really I know a bit about self-control.
Before my recovery, I used to have problems with my moods. I can be very sweet, but extremely bitter. Since my recovery, problems with my moods have progressively decreased.
I looooooove sugar. Morning coffee must have 10 sugars :)
My best friend and I are similiar in that we like to do the same activities ( shopping, comedy clubs, movies etc.)
We both attend two different universities and are doing quite well.
It would drive me insane how she can say no after the 2nd drink, but I've come to accept that our bodies are simply different.
I hope this helps.
take care of you!

Alcoholism is a behavioral disorder AND a genetically-determined chemical situation in someone, so it's really hard to say someone is or is not an alcoholic. The disease needs both factors.
Also, the disease is often different in men and women. Women metabolize alcohol differently than men, and for many of them the behavioral and physical damage to their systems is much faster than it is for a man. Also, female alcoholism is even more "denied" than male alcoholism, and is often the last thing family members will confront the woman about.
Alcoholism is also a progressive disease, which can be halted by abstinence in the early stages, but which follows a predictable course of damage to personhood, family, mind, body, etc. until death, usually of chirrosis of the liver.
Many or most alcoholics might function so well in society and their jobs that they are un-noticed as drunks. Social mores and family "denial" and "cover-up" may keep them in the disease for many years without a public crisis like arrest for drunk driving, or a job loss. Often pressure to drink for business reasons increases as alcoholics excel in their jobs, pushing them into many social drinking situations that they should have avoided.
But the main problem with analysing alcoholics is that the disease is kept "secret"--- usually by the alcoholic's loved ones, it is denied in every possible way, ignored, lied about.
Very few people understand what is going on, and usually won't admit what is going on. There is no typical alcoholic---some are abusive and violent, some are gentle, quiet and long-suffering. This is true whatever the alcoholic's sex, social class, or educational background is. Some seem normal to outsiders, and strange behavior inside the family is openly denied and lied about, to preserve the illusion of normality at all costs.
The only basic fact is that everyone in the family will be damaged emotionally (and probably financially) by the disease, and that the alcoholic will die an early death from it.

We are all human at the end of the day no matter what our business! For non-drinker's or social drinker's, they may not have any serious issue's in their life or they might simply just be really good at dealing with their problem's. Alot of people turn to drug's for answer's but thier are'nt any. A real person will understand that the best way to handle anything is by facing it and dealing with it instead of letting it eat you up or pretending it's not their! Drink is too easy to get involved with because it's there infront of you. It's hard to say no whether your an alchie or not. One pint, twenty pint's, orange juice or vodka, we all have a drink it's just how we take to it. Some rely on it, some can take it or leave it. We all have a choice with anything we do, it's up to the individual to decide their path in life. Drink is meant as a social thing, but it also ruin's live's aswell, just like a typical drug does. I think as far as responsiblities and families are concerned, a good man or woman would choose what would matter most to them, their familie's. Alchies or any sort of druggies really would opt for the easy route and not care about anything but themselve's although some do not realise that they are being selfish, other's just don't care at all and hurt people that do. Some people may not have anyone left in their life or may never of had anyone in the first place, I really feel sorry for these people. They are the one's that need the help. Aslong as your still breathing, Never give up, life is like a drug, take it or leave it, screw drug's, choose life.

actual I only watched a instruct approximately this! Alcoholic can selection from many tiers of alcohol. Non-alcoholic in it rather is alcoholic degree is boiled until the alcohol evaporates from it. You get the flavor with out the effects. Like Beer it rather is Non-Alcoholic tastes like beer, yet does not rather have a similar result as Alcoholic. even nevertheless it is seen Non-Alcoholic there remains 0.5% alcohol in it. you will possibly might desire to drink 8 Non-Alcoholic Beers to get a similar volume of alcohol as a million gentle beer nevertheless!

well, this is my stupid answer... one likes to drink a lot of alcohol and one doesn't...
My serious answer is this:
Read "The Little Prince" and you can see what an example of a tippler is. The man who the Little Prince encounters is a tippler who drinks... and the reason why he drinks is to forget... When the Little Prince asks what he wants to forget about, the tippler's reply is "Drinking"
A lot of people drink just to forget, but sometimes what they try to forget about is what they are currently doing. It's sad how much of a drug alcohol is and the people that it affects...
It not only affects the drinkers, but also the people who the drinker comes in contact with daily. For a good example of course is family.
I bet that alcoholics drink excessively and they know it. Me having to wait quite a bit till I can drink have not come in contact with alcoholism, so my opinion might not make much sense, but this is what i think. Alcoholics drink to forget, but it eventually comes to their downfall unless they do something about it.
Instead of going over their problems, instead they drink because they would rather not feel the stress which is cascading them in their life. Although this is true, it just leads to more stress and more stress until it is too much for them to handle. And they crack...
Alcohol is a drug, and there must be something done about it.
I just ranted on a lot... but i hope i helped you!

i find that alcoholism is a way to run away from things gone wrong in ones life... i drink because of problems, but i keep that to myself almost ashamed i'm drinking to forget something, my friends call me the party animal and i can forget while i'm buzzing or drunk even. Towards the end of the night when your alone though... you crash and all the thoughts swarm in, u pass out dizzy in a spinning room and as soon as you wake up your numb from either hangover or the awkward position you passed out in... later that night all u ca think about is not thinking about it again and the process is repeated.... the reasos i drink? money, college, girl problems, but mostly self confidence issues. i dont know if what ive said will answer your questions but maybe it will help

Addiction. Have a look at the Alcoholics Anonymous website: http://www.aa.org/?Media=PlayFlash
You might even find someone from there willing to do an interview to help raise awareness, if you email them and ask nicely. You'd probably get extra credit. :)
