Being part Irish and part Scottish, I have a very fair skin tone with some freckles too. I have light brown hair and blue eyes. I'm not sure what color prom dress I should get. I'm worried that if i get a darker color like dark blue my skin might look too pale in contrast. But I don't want to look washed out if I wear a lighter pastel color. What colors and shades would best complement my skin/hair/eyes?

It's really hard to answer that question without taking a look at you. One other things you might want to consider is the them of your prom. That might help in determining what color you want to where for instance the theme of my little sisters prom is clasic romance. So naturally the reds, blacks, pinks, and whites were popular for that school this year. My cuzines on the other had a midnight in new york theme and a lot of the girls wore the dark blues, and silvers. Just go and try on a bunch of dresses and see what you feel comfortable in. I would however say that if you have light brown hair and blue eyes you should stick to the cool colors rather then the warms. I know that might not have been much help. The important thing is you pick a dress you like and feel comfortable and confident in because that will show through the entire evening. Good luck to you.

A nice shade of blue or green would probably do very nicely on you. One thing you can do...is go to the fabric store and look at all the different shades of blues, greens...and any other color that may strike your fancy. Hold the fabric right under you chin and look in the mirror(there are plenty of mirrors in fabric shops..people do this all the time) this way you can get an idea about what colors look good next to you skin tone. If you find a color you like, ask the store for a swatch of the fabric and then you can go and shop for a dress...based on the swatch.

Good luck and have fun!

A darker color would actually look pretty good because of the contrast and it's very bold.

You should probably stay away from pastels, like yellow. Pink would be fine as long as it's not a very light pink.

I would suggest finding a blue that is close to your eye color to make your eyes really stand out. Also, you should do your eyemakeup to make your blue eyes stand out [think opposite colors]

Good luck and have fun!

Looking washed out in pastels is much worse than pale against vibrant colors. I would look for a medium to deep shade of blue. Avoid white, greys, pastels and earth tones like the plague.

I have your same complexion. And I am part irish. But you should definately wear a dark color it shows off our porcelain skin. I have gotten more compliments when I wear dark colors then when I wear pastels. Black is always my favorite then you can have ANY other accent color. I sometimes have subtle blue accessories (such as earrings or necklaces) to bring out the blue in my eyes. Dark Colors, Bottom Line.

a dark purple is beautiful on prom dress--and probably will not make your skin look too pale. Silver would be nice on some parts of the dress, but not the whole dress. Stay away from yellows.

I think silver is a great idea. Maybe accent it with a darker silver or black pearl necklace. Also, magenta shades look good on pale skin...but it had to be a rich magenta and not a pale pinkish shade.
