Tigerdirect and newegg are the best places to buy not only memory but all computer hardware. Crucial is very overpriced, some here just don't know any better.

Like if in the links above you couldn't get high and even better quality then crucial and ballistix. Also, if you need to ask this question there's no need for high performance overclockers memory. (such as ballistix)

Ahh Grasshopper this is what the other people have failed to tell you. Cheaper is not better. You see you buy from someone like crucial.com. They sell name brand memory.

For example. Ballistix memory modules are a little more expensive. During the manufacturing process they weed out the modules that do not meet their specs. What they do is SELL them to other manufacutres who then turn around and put their own name on them. So in actuality you may be buying memory modules that were rejected by Ballistix standards. I used to be like everyone else think memory was the same a few years ago till I read stuff on pcworld.com I think. Big Surprise. Now what is good about crucial.com is that they sell name brand, EXCELLENT return policy too. Some of these other companies will not REFUND your money. Only exchange a defective modules. So you can figure out then who is selling rejected modules now.

But if you gotta buy cheap, then at least see what the return policy is just in case you get a bad module. In the US, I bought mine at SAM's Club, way cheaper than the internet.

Run Belarc to see what you have in your computer.
INFORMATION SITES
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html -- info on computer inside
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
http://www.crucial.com/index.asp -- info and price on memory

Then crucial has a scan to tell you what memory you need for your computer. But bookmark these URLs for future reference. If you run belarc and crucial I can advise you what to get. Example, if you have 256 MB and you can hold 1 GB max, that mean you can have 2 - 512 Mb modules in the two slots. You would not want to get another 256 Mb to fill the other slot, cuz when you update and replace it with a 512 Mb memory module you have lost the money for the 256 Mb. If you do not understand then let me know what you got then.
