Along with the S/S card was my original birth certificate so all I have is a Cal Drivers license. I need to provide my SS for my new job.

You have to go to your nearest Social Security Office and complete a paper work for a lost ss# card. For your lost birth certificate, you have to find the address of the office of Vital Records and write and tell them you need a new birth certificate.

Ask the person in HR what else you can bring in from Column C of your i-9 - that is what they are referring to - they need to prove to the INS that you have a legal right to a job in the US. Here are some alternate ideas for you.

Go to the social security office and apply for a new card. Lost cards happen all the time. They will give you a receipt that you can use in place of your social security card. When your new one arrives in the mail you can bring that in to the HR department.

Alternatley I think you can use a Voters Registration Card in place of your social security card, or a passport in place of both your DL and SSC.

You should have gotten your new SS card before applying for a job to avoid any problems. This is the first thing jobs look for. All you can do now is just be patient and go through the normal steps of getting another one. If you are trying to do this before getting on at the new job you should just be clear to them what happened.

Good luck to you!

YOu need to go get a copy of your birth certificate. Call your city hall to see if you can get that from them.

You may have to visit the county you were born in to get your birth certificate.

Then go to the social security building and show them your copied birth certificate.

There is no "quick" way. You must go to the Social Security office in your area and reapply for a new card. After you complete the paper work, they will give you temporary papers to allow you show your employer.
