If it's your first time ever taking the pill, you may want to take your first pill the day your period starts (day one), just so you won't forget on Sunday (and so you can get that nagging feeling out of your head). Day one gives you more protection against becoming pregnant, because you're bleeding within the first week of taking it. I really never understood the need for a Sunday start, because you have to go a week using a back-up method like condoms, which sort of defeats the purpose, you know? Anyway, that's just my opinion, your a totally different woman and it may be contrary for you. Both are completely safe, so whichever one you choose, good luck!

RE:
Difference between day one start and Sunday start for birth control?
I would like to know the difference between a day one start and a Sunday start for birth control. Which one is better to use, and why are there two different options anyway?
Thanks guys!

Day 1 start means you start your pills on the first day of your period. It also means that you're covered immediately by the pill with regard to contraception.
Sunday start means that you take your 1st pill on the Sunday AFTER your period starts. This also means that you MUST use backup birth control for 7 consecutive days after your first pill before contraception is effective.
Either method is fine. Sunday start is easier to remember, but 1st day start is ok too, especially now that the pill packs come with customizable "calendar" labels for 1st day starters. The two different options were offered because it became apparent that not everyone could start the pill on the same day (such as women who have irregular menses or have yet to get their periods after having a baby).

usually you do what the doc says but a sunday start is when you take your first pill the first sunday after your period or the first sunday you have your period which ever comes first and a day 1 is when you take your pill the first day of your period

day one start is better in that you are protected from pregnancy from the first day IF you truly begin the pills on day one, sunday start is just convention-no medical reason to start on sunday. one good thing about sunday start is that you will most likely not have periods on the weekends.
