I know that crayfish will eat shrimp and such, but is it bad if I put a crayfish in the same tank as my guppies?

Yes. Crayfish will eat (or try to) any fish they can catch. Your guppies are fast enough to keep away from it during the day when the lights are on, but at night they will start to disappear.

If it can catch them ..It will eat them. Crayfish are very patient when it comes to hunting. I've seen one sit in one spot for 2 hours and when a fish got near it he caught it like it was nothing.
bummer I didn't have the video camera running at the time.

I have had a crawfish in a small ten-gallon freshwater community tank. While they can be pretty cool at first the one that I had killed a Ram and a Platy, it also crawled out of the tank and died. So I can't see why it wouldn't eat a guppie. So though they are a fun sight to have in a tank after a while they aren't really worth it.
