It depends on what you want from yuor internet, if you want to download massive amounts of data look at the small print.

Most firms have a fair usage policy in place so "unlimited" actually means "limited" as going over a pre-determined amount will result in either loss of service, slow connections, bandwidth restrictions etc.

If you must go with ADSL then try and get a LLU providor, someone who can charge the line rental, calls and broadband on one bill, take the whole thing away from BT, the line is still owned and maintained by bt but you pay someone else, ususally a lower price.

But NTL / Virgin are probably the best if you are in a cable are, leave the tv and phone alone but the broadband is by far superior to any dsl (apart from SDSL but that cost a lot) and faster speeds (upto 100mb) are possible and may be available in the next few years, I think the download limit before restrictions is about 75GB but as of february they still were only enforcing FUP on mega users (250GB+) who continually go over the limit and only after sending letters and calling asking them to stop the excessive downloading.

Depends on your area and your budget, how you want your bills etc.

They may give you unlimited access but you may end up with a low bandwidth on your connection as you will be incontention with may other users.

You should be able to negotiate with BT to get your monthly fee back down providing the 50GB download was a one off. They really should have charged you extra for just that month. I am sure that if this is the case they would return you to the previous fee if they new the business was gonig elsewhere.

just be very careful to read what is on offer.
some offer unlimited d/l's but also have a fair use policy...go over what they think to be fair and they will stop you d/l-ing.
others will let you have more if you only d/l in off peak hours.
you get what you pay for really, the odd one or two providers offer a restricted membership but a lot more bandwidth and unlimited d/l's.....but they do not come cheap.
i had many happy years with pipex, they had unlimited but i believe they too have a fair usage policy now.
