I was able to format the hardrive and put windows xp on it,thanks

That is a standard reply for a hard drive that is going bad. It may not be completely bad, but it is going bad. If you have any data to save do it quickly before the hard drive goes down all the way.

it's telling yo that the sector where it was going to save your information is bad. this is an early warning that your hd is going to go bad pretty soon. Just because you where able to install xp on it doesn't matter. I advice you to save everything that you don't want to get lost in another place. what you could do is get another hd install your OS in it and use your original as a secondary drive to be able to transfer all your stuff to the new one. you might not be able to get to your original's desktop so it be better to move the items you want directly to your cd drive before you add the new hd. that way when you use the original hd as a secondary you will be able to transfer everything.

Make sure you defrag once a week and it will keep you out of trouble.
