I am just curious what the deal was with the Gm just giving up on smyth that easily? over wasnt it 500k? I mean they knew he was the face of the damn franchise. as a sharks fan I have sympathy for losing smyth, but i just cant picture him in a different uniform, and are you guys gonna try to sign him up over summer? or will it be the same deal with he wants too much? do you think he will lower his tag? thoughts?

Look on the bright side I mean best case scenario Smyth resigns with the Oilers after this season then the GM will look brilliant swinging deals to get high draft picks and highly touted defensemen Robert Nilsson. I am sorry to say that Smyth will most likely not resign with Edmonton because he has gotten comfortable in NY in terms of the fact that he can and is clicking with his linemates and is scoring on a pace very similar to the on he was on when he was with Edmonton. Also GM Lowe had to make it look like or at least imply to the Oilers faithful fans and community that Smyth was being a bit greedy and Smyth might have a bad taste in his mouth concerning the Oilers management and GM. Look for Smyth to stay in NY because it looks like they do have a future all of a sudden with the emergence od Dipietro and the fact that they kept Blake at the trade deadline. The oilers made a huge mistake however look at them nine straight losses because they lost their leader the heart and soul of the team and the face of hockey in canada.

I blame Smyth. If he wanted to stay in Edmonton so badly he could have coughed up the 300k. The team wants that money so they can be competitive...he could have stayed with the Oilers and they would have been slightly more competitive with that extra money. But no, he was very clear from the outset that he was not going to offer Edmonton a "home discount."

He is a sellout in my book.
