E machines used to be ok, but now they are junk. Stay away from Emachines. I have 3 of them all with cooked motherboards. Compaq is much better.

Go with the Compaq. I am using an eight year old Compaq right now and I have never had to repair anything. I have replaced a power supply and a mobo in my sisters emach and emach replaced the mobo under warranty within 6 mos of her purchase. If you are keeping track that is 2 mobo and 1 power supply in a machine that is less than 2 years old. You be the judge.

I would definitely stay away from EMachines, though I would be cautious with Compaqs as well. I would say that buying an extended warranty would be your best bet.
According to PC World EMachines are a better than Compaqs. Take a look at their information before you make a decision.

Most computer today have exactly the same thing inside the case. And I don't think compaqs customer service is much better than emachine. Unless you are going to really work your pc, save the money to upgrade your emachine.

Definitively Compaq.
Compaq is a quality computer like HP (made by the same compagnie)
E-Machine make all it can to lower the price of their computer and insert a lot of cheap pieces in their computer. Don't buy this.
Take a look at Dell for cheap computer with raisonable quality.
Compaq Or HP for a higher quality.

Compaq, even if it was between a Dell.
Great products, components and customer support.
