how much do CD drives cost? (computer)?

and, when i put in a CD or DVD, nothing appears on the screen. does this mean that i have to get a new drive? is there any way that i can fix it.

You can get a good quality DVD/CD burner for under $40

Maybe the "autoplay" feature is disabled on your PC.
After you put a CD in the drive go to Windows Explorer & see if the CD is detected.
