Trumpets and trombones add a really great flair. I don't know if you are old enough to remember the group Chicago, but they were a rock band and had some really great brass arrangements. They also featured flute in "Hard Habit to Break"
...and to the person who can't imagine flutes in a rock band Jethro Tull featured Flute as well as the rock band Heart. I'm sure there were others.

all you need is, guitars ,drums, bass, and an awesome singer...IE: ac/dc...rush...... check out the movie,school of rock ..the heavier the sound the farther you will go...key word.....distortion....you did say rock band ...did you not/?? don't play no hip-hop girlie sounding music.....have fun and rock the house...
