Ive done this many times. You can usually pick a nice used computer up and many rent to own companies, like rent-a -center, color time...ect. I got a nice one for $100, $150 and $250. They were about 1-2 yrs old totally checked out and cleaned. They worked better than a new one. Most new ones Ive had the factory specs on new one that came soo screwed up, i had to redo them, so the used ones were perfect

Hey Mr. J

A decent computer for 200 is not really that reasonable no matter what shop you buy it from. A peice of crap for 200 is reasonable. But with that. Two ways I would do it. If you don't care about looks. you can get a tower pretty much any computer shop for next to nothing. You might have to ask the guy behind the desk. Get a basic tower and start adding to it. There's very little you need to know when making a computer from scratch. After the tower all you need is a some what good cpu AMD 1700+(i think) runs at 1.4 ghz which is pretty good. And you can ebay those things. Very cheap...25 bucks maybe cheaper. Then a mother board. Little but more expensive but a cheap good mother board is Asus motherboard Socket A. These are pretty much the oldest but still do the trick. Get a hard drive. pretty cheap. And a cd-rom for bootin whatever free operating system you can get your hands on. But seriously building a computer for 200 dollars is your best bet. Just make sure your stuff is compatible. But that only applies to processors and video cards. If you want anymore help just ask. :)

One of my friend's owns/runs a local thrift store and she has had three very nice computers come in, in the last six months. People buy newer ones and some move overseas and don't want to deal with them. So my suggestion is try there! They sold for $50-$100, complete with flat screen monitors and printers even. Good luck to you!

Sometimes local computer shops will sell low end computers, but you'll have a hard time finding a computer that fits those requirements.
