i have heard that losing 1-2 pounds a week is very healthy and realistic, but would that work for anyone?
what i mean is, does that only work for fat (i do not mean to offend anyone) people who lose FAT?
i am 15, and i weigh 135 pounds. i have a lot of muscles and a thin layer of fat over them (since i stopped swimming).
basically, i want to lose 20 pounds in 15/17 weeks... so that's around 1 pound a week.... and i need to tone DOWN my muscles. is it possible?
if you have any exercise tips that will NOT increase my muscle mass, please tell me!
thanks =]

first of all yes, it's possible to loose 1-2 pounds a week. i know people who have done it. and 135 is a good weight to be at, especially if you're muscular. Muscle weights more than fat and that's probably where most of your weight is comeing from. But a good way to exercise and not increase your muscle mass is to do aerobic exercises. like jogging, bike riding, stuff like that. hope i helped and good luck

personally I don't think you should tone down your muscles. swimmers usually have wonderful lean bodies. it is very realistic to lost 1 - 2 pounds per week of fat. You cannot lose muscle weight unless you stop exercising them completely and that takes time.
You need to burn more calories than you eat. I would definately recommend more cardio workouts. I love the elliptical trainer and the rowing machines. They work your whole body. Unless you stop working out completely, your muscle will always be there. You need to lose the fat over the muscle to give you a leaner appearance. If you do the cardio stuff 4 - 5 times per week for 40 min that should be good. Try to get your heart rate up to 160-170. Or wherever you don't feel too winded while trying to talk.
Muscle weighs more than fat. So measuring yourself with tape measure is a better indicator having lost anything. I would personally rather lose inches than be worried about weight. If I am smaller in inches, I may have gained muscle. and my clothes will fit better.
Weight lifting is actually a really important thing for women to do. If you have more muscle, your body's metabolism is increased and you can burn more fat. You become more efficient with calorie burning. You should probably cut back on any sort of heavy weight lifting. My old personal trainer told me that i should do 3 sets of weights for a variety of exercises for my whole body. if I could lift 20 reps fairly easy, I need to go up in weight. i.e. if I was doing a leg press, and I could go up and down 20 times without much effort, the weight was not enough. do that three times.
for woman, weight lifting 2 times per week will actually help you out as you get older. It is good for the bones and may also be good for preventing things like cancer.
You may also want to try yoga. that uses your own body to increase muscle strength, but doesn't really get you super buffed.

Yes, losing 1-2 pounds a week is healthy as long as your doing it right.. Eating healthy and exercising is important. Also someone weighing 200 pounds will lose quite a bit of weight quicker than someone who weights 140. Also, I saw a vitamin commercial online about "The Greatest Vitamin in the World" and it really works! Theres several different vitamins to choose from, even a weight loss one.. It looked promising to me.. If your interested the website is http://www.dontforgettotakeyourvitamins.com/paul3359
