Sometimes paper gets stuck and it thinks it''s out, the rollers can be getting slick and not picking up. If your printer has a back door open that and clean the large rubber rollers you see and or check to make sure there is no stuck paper anywhere.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

HP support just wants to send you thru a bunch of useless loops then tell you that you must buy a new HP printer.
I had a constant blinking light on my hp3940 deskjet. Error msg was telling me Paper Jam, but there was no paper jam, then Ink Low, but it was not low, then Mechanism Error, (obviously).
I spent about 1.5 hours online with HP technical support jumping thru EVERY hoop--cover up, down, cartriges in, out, unplug, replug, they tried to do a "manual reset" or some such nonsense, power cord unplug, count to 60, replug, unplug the power & USB cords from back of printer, replug, you get my gist....tried EVERYTHING.
All this time & effort for them to tell me I needed to buy a new one from them for $49.95 or 10-40% off another printer if I buy direct..
******** Anyway, I found the silly FIX! *****
UNPLUG the USB cable FROM THE BACK OF YOUR COMPUTER; then plug it back in!
(which, of course, is too simple for any technician to EVER suggest)
PRESTO! It worked perfectly! My printer started spitting out all the backed up print jobs like magic!
good luck!
