Just wondering. And can you provide some details of the process?

1- Powercycle.. Don't worry it is safe. You cannot corrupt the router's config.

2- If you know the login credentials (username/password) and "enable password" you need to telnet into the router either through the serial/console port or telnet to the router's ip address. Then go into "enable mode" by entering "enable" and enter the enable password when router asks for it. Then enter "reload" to reboot the router.

3 main things happen when a router boots. First it runs the POST, power on self test. 2nd it locates and loads the operating system. 3rd it applies the configuration settings that set up the interfaces, routing protocols, etc. Not sure what you mean by how many ways to boot it, there's really just one, turn it on... you can of course make it do different things based on the confreg setting. Try doing some searching for IOS boot process, and similar.
