Do you have to have sex to get one?

You do not need to have sex to get a yeast infection. It is just an overgrowth of a type of yeast. It itches(pretty bad), there is a cottage cheese type discharge. If you have never had a yeast infection before, it is best to first get diagnosed by a doctor just in case it is something else. After you know what it is like to have one you can self treat with medicine like Monistat that is sold an most local drugstores.

you scratch a lot down there, it's red, there's this yeast-like smell. those are most of the signs. i'd say, go to the doctor as soon as possible to do tests to make sure it's a yeast infection and not something else. in the meantime, don't scratch back because that will just make it worse. take a hot bath, and wear cotton underwear. i had yeast infection and it stayed for a long time just because i didn't know that it was that bad! good luck!!

Have your doctor diagnose the first one so that you know what to look for and expect if you ever need to treat another one, but classic yeast infection symptoms are a whitish cottage-cheese looking clumpy discharge, along with ungodly itching and burning of the vaginal area.

there is a white cottage cheese discharge and it itches like hell!!. it has a mild odor too. If you start smelling fishy then that could be bacterial vaginosis and has to be treated with antibiotics.. If its a yeast and you never had one before... check with your doctor before using a treatment..

Smelly discharge, itching. You should see a doc to make sure because u could have bacterial vaginosis (close to the same symptoms)

It usually itches terribly and looks kinda like yogurt.
There are products you can buy for it at the drug store that will kill it right away.
