Like .. do you prefer hot sun, lots of people, scantily clad? Or rugged, isolated, pristine? Something else?

the "good beach" to me is white soft sand that doesn't get hot from the sun, clean blue/green clear water, no waves. Not too many people. Bar and restaurant service on the beach, comfortable lounge chairs, under a hut to protect me from the sun if I take a nap. Quiet, no loud music or people so I can read my books and relax. A place to get a massage under the palm trees if I want.

That's my definition of a "good beach".

hot sun, lots of people, scantily clad = a good beach (to be at)

rugged, isolated, pristine = a coastline (is a great place to contemplate)

You know, I never thought about that... I've been to beaches in Dubai, Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, Virginia, and California, and I love them all... I just need sand, the sun, and good waves! I appreciate al beaches for their characteristics... The beach in VA has a lot of Hotels and shops, and I like that! California beaches just has sand and water, and I like that! Well, Venice Beach in CA has a lot of shops, but that's not a beach you go swimming at... That's some dirty water.... Australia, is like Cali, except the waves are bigger! Hehe.. But I even like beaches with small waves. I guess the only thing I need is the sun, sand, and water... But I prefer the ones with waves :)

Hot sun with spots of shade under palms and warm blue water. Aruba is great - Maui, Hawaii, even better. Key west, FL is beautiful too. I do like privacy as well...that's always a plus.....damn, now I wanna go! Where I am it's snowing and hasn't stopped all day! Argh!

Hot sun, nice clean sand & pristine waters...few people (not to crowded but not to isolated either).

Good Beach: Has clean sand. Gently sloping shore to allow wading versus dropping off quickly to waist deep or deeper.

People are not an issue due to IT'S A BEACH.

I like beaches with blue water, very sandy beach with no rocks and that has a few shops and restaurants nearby. My local beach has dark water, kind of dirty but it has restaurants and alot of people come anyway, and I still go but the bluer, the cleaner and the prettier im my opinion
