Can anyone give me advice as to software and hardware issues I might need to view it on my desk top

I would like to know if I can just add to Pc as slave and use Windows Media player to view or is their more to this then that.

What I would do is buy a kit for an external USB drive & mount your hard drive in it.

Tivo and PCs most probably use different file systems
(Tivo is most likely a Linux-based box so it uses a Unix file system)
So, by just mounting the Drive to your PC you may not have much luck reading anything.

Plus, If I were Tivo, I would also use some encryption, especially for movie downloads and premium content so that inquiring minds like you don't tamper with copyrighted content.
