An air filled spherical capacitor is constructed with inner and outer shell radii of 6.5 cm and 13.1 cm, respectively. The coulomb constant is 8.98755 X 10^9.
1. Calculate the capacitance of the device. Answer in units of pF.
2. In addition, what potential difference between the spheres results in a charge of 31.4 micro C on the capacitor? Answer in units of kV.

I tried using C= Q / Vab = 4πEo*(r_a*r_b / (r_b - r_a) but that didn't work.

theres a good chance your equation is missing a constant. (Coulomb constant)
8.99x10^9 N m^2 / C^2
should be
4 pi E0(r_a*r_b) / (ke * (r_b - r_a)

1. C = eA/d with e : permitivity,; A is surface area,; d is distance b/t two plates

e(air) = 1 ( I guessed. Double check)

C1 = 4x Pix r1^2/(r2 - r1)
= 4x3.14x(6.5x10^-2)^2 / (6.6x10^-2) Farad
C2 = 4x3.14x(13.1x10^-2)^2 / (6.6x10^-2) Farad
Make sure convert to pF

1 Farad = 10 ^12 pF

2. Use C = Q/V
V = Q/C
find V1 and V2 and then take the difference. That is your final answer. Make sure convert to appropriate unit
Q = 31.4 microC = 31.4 x 10^-6 C
1 kV = 1000V

Good luck bloke!!!
