Okay, so pebal food is better than flakes. But some of you guys were saying that you can give them frozen food such as shrimp and stuff.

a variety in diet is best usually. pellet food can be fine by itself, however adding frozen foods like the others have mentioned is great. a diet solely made up of these rich foods can cause constipation though, so I find it's best to find a good mix of a few types. frozen foods are not to be mistaken with freeze dried foods. freeze dried foods have nearly no nutrients and should only be fed as a treat.

you can also feed your betta food like peas. take a plain frozen pea and place it in hot water until the water and the pea are room temp. the peal the skin off the pea. you can either drop the pea in and the betta will nibble at it or you can pinch off tiny betta bite sized pieces. either way, remove left over pea the next day so it doens't rot. do this no more than once a week. it helps prevent constipation and bettas just seem to enjoy it.

We breed bettas for over 6 1/2 years now, and you can feed them brine shrimp in a couple different forms: frozen, freeze dried, or alive. Our fry(babies) eat live (you can buy a kit to raise your own at Petsmart). Adults eat frozen and freeze dried. The flakes and pebal food is ok but, the brine shrimp will keep your Bettas alive and healthy longer. Alot of people use Brine Shrimp only for treats but, they may want to research that more. There is a lot of needed proteins and vitamins in the Brine Shrimp that will be better for them...Also, try using Stress Coat when you change the water. Good Luck!!!

I've always fed my bettas a variety of foods--live fish foods (not so much brine shrimp--adult brine shrimp have lost most of their nutritional value and are mostly fiber, especially the longer they are out of their own environment (ocean of salt lake) so they can't feed), frozen fish foods and for treats some human foods such as cooked chicken (no spices or sauces of course), cooked salmon, cooked turkey, and shrimp, clams, mussles, squid. Just a little tiny bit, you have to chop it up very fine so the fish won't choke on it, and don't give them a lot or the leftovers will pollute the tank. Make sure the food is fresh and clean. I heard someone even fed his betta a small bit of chocolate cake (which the fish ate)--don't know if it had frosting or not. My bettas kill and eat snails too.

You can feed a Betta brine shrimp, which can be found frozen (at a pet shop), but not a regular shrimp large enough for human consumption

Pellets and frozen fish foods are the best way to go over all. Most betta really like bloodworms, daphnia and brine shrimp. There aren't really that many foods from you plate that would be good for them.

Not human shrimp, brime shrimp are good, though. You can give a larger betta cut-up frozen peas and a little lettuce now and then. Varying their diet with this is good.

Yes but not very often. I feed my female betta frozen blood worms. My male does not seem to be too interested but he is quite a bit older than her. You can find them at any pet supply store. Remember, only once or twice a week as a treat.
