i am a mechanic, and would never own one, and never recommend it to my worst enemy, unless the price was so low that you could re-sell it for $2000 more than you paid. they are clunky rattle-traps that see way too much shop time.

I would recommend them - I've put over 40,000 miles on a 2000 model, supposedly the worst of the bunch. There have been precisely two things on it that broke. The little button on the parking brake handle got stuck in, and after popping it out a couple of times I put in an SVT parking brake handle. And the rear view mirror came off after I gave it a very hard twist in a way it wasn't supposed to bend on a very cold morning. Other than that, nothing's broken on it at all and it's been very reliable. Gets good mileage and it's a lot of fun to drive.

I used to own one. And would recommend it after telling them all the problem I had. It drove well, and got good gas mileage. It was peppy and good visibility. I did have to replace a rear wheel bearing after 30K miles.
