Chances are slim that towing had anything to do with that, but there is a slight chance of that happening, too. Power shifting or just sloppy shifting or shifting without using the clutch is the more likely cause.
~YOU'VE BEEN HOT RODDING THE CAR AGAIN, EH?~ (Nyuk) I used to hear that a lot, nyuk. Dad was a cop. oowww!
The trans needs overhauled. It won't 'fix' itself and will just get worse.

Proper towing of cars with manual transmissions require the tower to remove the drive shaft so the trans isn't turning from the output shaft side. If it was towed this way it is possible it was damaged.

Most towers use flatbeds to aviod this sort of damage, and a flarbed would NOT cause this problem.

Most cars are towed in neutral. And hotrodding affects the clutch and pressure plate first then the low gears. When was the last time the gear oil was changed? Things do wear out.if not properly maintained and it is usually the higher gears affected in both manual and automatic

Its usually caused by low tranny fluid. Also, shifting improperly can do the same thing.
