I have to declare a major by the end of this semester and I am torn between Geography, with a concentration in GIS or Economics. If I decide to go with the GIS/Geography major, I will also pick a minor in Economics. I have also heard that Economics majors have more job opportunities. Which one has the better job opportunities? I plan to pursue a career in Urban Planning/Community Development, but I want to take some years off to work in the field before I get a Master's in Urban Planning.

If you want to work in the field before doing your Master's, I would go with an Economics major.

I don't have statistics on job opportunities, but I can see why the Econ grad would be a more attractive applicant than the Geography grad in general terms. The optics and the numbers (i.e. fewer Econ grads) are both better.
